Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)

Helping You Feel Safe, Understood, and Supported

At Adapt Family Health Solutions, we know that sometimes things can feel overwhelming. When a person finds it hard to communicate their needs, they might use certain behaviors to show they are upset or stressed. This is what we call “behaviors of concern.”

Our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is all about helping you and your support team understand why these things happen. We don’t use force or control. Instead, we look for better ways to help you feel calm, happy, and in charge of your own life.

How We Help You

We work slowly and carefully to make sure you feel comfortable. Our team follows these simple steps:

  • Learning About You: We spend time getting to know what you like, what makes you upset, and how you like to communicate.
  • Creating a Plan: We write a “Behaviour Support Plan.” This is like a guidebook for your family and workers so they know exactly how to support you in the best way.
  • Learning New Skills: We help you find new ways to tell people what you need so you don’t feel frustrated.
  • Making Changes at Home: Sometimes, making small changes to your room or your daily routine can help you feel much more relaxed.

Respecting Your Rights and Freedom

We believe everyone deserves to be treated with kindness. Our main goal is to stop using “restrictive practices” (things that stop you from moving or doing what you want). We focus on your rights and make sure you have the freedom to make your own choices. By building your confidence, we help you live a life where you feel respected and heard.

Extra Support When You Need It

We have a big team of experts who can help with different things:

  • Mental Health Support: If you are feeling anxious or sad, our counselors can work with you.
  • Nurse Support: Our nurses can check if you are feeling unwell or if your medicine is helping you stay calm.
  • Safe Training: We teach your family and workers how to stay calm and keep you safe if things get difficult.
